If you are seeking protection from persecution in another country, you may be eligible to apply for asylum in the United States. The persecution must have occurred based on one of five protected grounds -- on the basis of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. The persecution must have already happened in the past, or you must show a "well-founded fear" that you will be persecuted in the future if you return to your country.
There are also some potential bars to your claim to asylum, such as waiting too long without an applicable exception, committing a serious crime, or having supported a terrorist organization.
If you are not eligible for asylum, you may still be eligible for withholding of removal or protection under the Convention Against Torture (CAT).

We will carefully review the facts of your case, prepare all required forms and documents, prepare your personal statement explaining your basis for asylum, and a legal argument in support of your applications. We will also prepare you for, and attend with you, your interview with USCIS.

If you have received a Request for Evidence (RFE) from USCIS, it is critical that you respond in a timely manner, include everything requested, and provide a clear, compelling, and easily understood response. We will carefully review your initial application or petition, ensure that your response is complete, and provide an informative explanation to give you the best possible chance of receiving a favorable decision.
You have a right to have your application or petition decided in a timely manner. If the government is taking too long, it is possible to file a lawsuit in Federal Court asking a judge to compel government action on your case. This is called a Writ of Mandamus and in many cases merely filing the complaint is sufficient to prompt agency action on your application or petition. Although a court cannot make a decision on your application, a judge can compel the government to make a decision if it continues to delay.
If you have any questions about how a writ of mandamus works or whether a writ of mandamus is appropriate in your circumstances, please contact us.
Mr. Sorrell was referred by Turkish community when we just moved to Houston , TX. I was skeptical in the beginning about giving my case to him. I Had many bad experiences with many lawyers in my 17 years in America: overcharged, not received phone calls & emails in timely manners, been ignored and most importantly not got positive results.
After the initial consultation; I felt so much better. He was not giving me empty promises w/100% guaranteed results and intention to charge me super high fees. He even offered me payment plan where I could pay in 4 portions. He had a very effective strategy that worked for other immigrants who were in similar situation as me.
After having a couple more meetings, i strongly felt Mr. Kory Sorrell’s being honest, straightforward, have intelligent strategy and charging very affordable fair fees. I even called 3 different lawyers and law firms and asked them how much Kory’s strategy will cost me if I asked them to do the same work. 1 law firm in Boston wanted to charge 4 times more, a law firm from MO wanted to charge 3 times more, my previous lawyer from Chicago wanted 2 times more. I finally gave my case to him and that was the best decision in my life.
Today, After 3 years waiting frustrated under immigration’s mercy, with 3 months of my lawyer’s help, I became US citizen. I felt trapped in a dark tunnel and no light was visible at the end of the tunnel. Mr. Sorrell drilled a hole top of the tunnel and pull me out of darkness to bright daylight. Now I feel FREE again...
THANK YOU SO MUCH SIR. Please share my story with your future clients. I already referred many of my friends and will continue referring more as long as I live... [Client from Turkey / lawsuit in Federal District Court to compel government action on delayed naturalization application]
I started my asylum case with a lawyer with whom I did not feel progress, after that I had a mistake in court and did not appear. I thought that I would not have the opportunity to do anything to change my status, because I had closed the case. A month later, they recommended me to Kory Sorrell, who has been my ray of hope, since he was able to reopen my case and move forward in it. I have not stopped recommending since then: honest, reliable, punctual, and dedicated is how I define his work. [Client from Venezuela / Motion to Reopen ]
